In the spectacular beauty of post-World War II Montana, Randy Parker has returned from the Pacific at Christmas time. His thirteen year old Sally Mae Parker expects her life to become normal again now that her Daddy's is home. Instead, Sally's budding adolescence shatters her world of innocence and leads her onto the winding path of womanhood.
Bobby awakens unfamiliar desires within her, but sally's puritanical mother is violently opposed to her involvement with him. Further complicating matters, Randy is unable to adjust to lfe back home with his wife and falls into an affair with the widowed mother of Sally's best friend. When Sally accidentally discovers the affair, her world is shattered. The Parker family is thrust into yet another crisis when their new baby born is born with a life threatening illness. Amidst all this adversity, they rediscover each other and the love they share, becoming a closer family than ever before. Sally grandpa and confidant patiently guides the entire family with tenderness and humor.
